Simple and long lasting

I've had one of these for years and you can't beat it for simplicity and hard-wearing. If you look after this it will probably out live you! I've tried several other light weight options like the Triad Stove and the White Box with a mug/pot combo but for the sake of a little extra weight this can't be beat. You can always leave the kettle and second pot at home don't forget plus the fuel is much cheaper than gas alternatives in my humble opinion...

This is an excellent product , well made , well thought out and easy to use . I cannot fault it . I have used it in extremely windy conditions to see how it worked and it boiled a litre of water in nine minutes . I have an old Primus 96 stove which I have used for years but I am happy to retire it in favour of the Trangia. No more searching for a sheltered spot on a dead even surface on the side of a windswept hill !

Simple, Basic and above all Reliable

As you'll probably know, keeping your kit simple is vital when you're away from civilisation because you can't go and buy a new valve or hose or nozzle if it breaks and this is why I opted for a Trangia over other higher-tech stoves. I've used other stoves in the past but they invariably stop working when you need them most. With this stove there's almost nothing to go wrong.The stove itself consists of 2 metal cylinders that lock together to form a base and a windshield, and a burner that sits in a hole in the base. The burner is just a metal pot that holds the fuel (meths or similar).The rest of the kit is a series of pans and a kettle that sit inside each other. You will need to buy a secure fuel bottle separately and Trangia and others make them. I've seen people using these stoves with meths in the plastic bottles you buy it in from the hardware shop and in my view that's asking for serious trouble.Light the meths, rest a pan over the flame and that's it. You can control the flame with a metal flap over the flame but that's the only moving part in the whole arrangement. The windshield makes sure that the stove works in just about all conditions.This version of the stove is the ultra-light (UL) version which is very compact and light when you consider it's a complete cooking kit for up to about 4 people. I use it for 2 people because the kettle is a decent size while on the smaller Trangia the kettle's too small in my opinion. The difference in weight between the small and large version is only about 250-300 grams which is noticeable but not huge unless you're desperate to save weight.There are 3 small drawbacks to this stove, hence it loses a star.Firstly, spirit burners are slow compared to other methods, taking over 10 minutes to boil a litre of water, but compared to gas at low temperatures or in windy conditions it's actually not bad and for versatility or speed you can buy converter kits to make it work with gas or a pressurised multi-fuel system (expensive mind you!).Secondly, the burner needs to be cool before you pack it away and it can take a while to cool down so you need to allow for this. Just a minor issue.Thirdly, it's quite expensive for something so simple. Ok it includes pans and a stove in one, but most of us already have pans.Small criticisms aside, it's a well made and reliable stove and I expect I'll be using it for years because I dont know how I can break it.

Trangia 25 - 25 years plus

I've been using my Trangia 25 stove for nearly 30 years, so it hasn't cost me much on an annual basis. In that time, I've replaced the burner once after I crushed the original by driving over it. Also in that time, it has thrived and survived while several gas and petrol-powered competitors have fallen apart, ceased to function or been shelved due to one annoying fault or another. My Trangia has always been the the best stove for a picnic or a light camp or the reliable fallback when the gas ran out. A classic, hardwearing design. If it was a car it would be an aluminium Volvo.7 Tips:1 Buy the fuel bottle for safety and convenience but don't screw the black tap in too hard or you'll really struggle next time you need to fill up.2 The screw-on lid of the burner tends to leak after a while, so when you've finished cooking and the whole thing has cooled, empty any meths from the burner back into the fuel bottle, then relight the residue in the burner and use it to dry out your kettle and pans. This stops aluminium leaching and avoids that metallic tang you can get in your tea from the first boil of the kettle. Burning off the meths residue also avoids leakage of Bitrex from the meths into your kettle - Bitrex is not good in tea - or anything else.3 Don't use the stove in the back of your car or in your tent - a nudge or hungover shaky hand can cause meths spillage below the burner which will result in a surprisingly vigorous fire, probably when you are least prepared for one. My wife nearly cooked our Kangoo that way. The Trangia is for outdoors use only.4 Point the holes in the base at the wind - the stove then works even in quite a vigorous breeze.5 Put the frying pan on to the boiling pan as a lid. This speeds up cooking significantly, especially in frosty conditions.6 500ml of meths can be bought for between £1.50 and £2.50 (cheaper at hardware shop decorating departments than at camping shops) and lasts for about 5 days of personal brewing up and making dinner. The fuel bottle holds 1 litre so that's enough for at least a week's average tea drinking.7 On level ground you can pre-heat the contents of pan 2 by placing it on to the frying pan lid of pan 1. So you can warm up the Bog a bit while the spag is cooking and have the sauce hot enough very soon after the spag is cooked.Happy camping!

Does the job asked of it

I used my Trangia 25 to camp out in the Lake District in cold weather, down to freezing. I did not have any problem using the stove, it was light, easy to pack, tough and did its job well. I wish I had known about the water-with-fuel mix trick before my first cooking attempt but that was my fault for not reading the instructions. 10% water in with the fuel cuts down on the soot you get on the bottom of the pan - don't forget this!If you are getting one of these then consider the Trangia fuel bottle too, or some similar system.

The Trangia spirit burner has two major advantages over other cookers:- it has no movable parts- it is very easy to operateYou just pour in methylated spirit, and light it with a match. 10 minutes later, you have enough water for two mugs of tea. The hard anodized aluminium is durable and easy to clean.The best bit is the in-built wind shield. It works even when it's quite windy. This tends to be a problem with most other camping stoves.

Not sure about hard andonisation

Having used a trangia for just about 20 years thought it was time to add an extra one now i have another mouth to cook for, last trangia was a 27 with the non sick coating and is still going strong and will still be in use i would rate that 5 stars. Thought this time to go the extra bit for the 25-8 UL HA and i am now not sure about how long the coating will last as it seems not very hard and easily scratched but will update in 6 months again after a bit of use .Review update -Have now used a few times and also looked at the stuff in shops and it looks like all you can get is the UL versions which feel flimsy but actually are pretty tuff . The hard coating option is good for pans and seems to be not stick enough to avoid food being welded to the bottom but i suspect i will purchase a non-stick version of the frying pan soon as it is not good enough for fry ups ( needs a lot of cleaning afterwards ) but the coating does seem to age better than i suspected initially .Will now give 4 stars instead of 3 .

I used Trangia stoves many years ago in Scouts and when i recently started getting into camping again it seemed logical to get my own kit.I have used a few different stoves since my first Trangia experiences, gas and multi-fuel types, however must say that i like Trangias the most - mainly due to reliability, consistency, ease of use and functionality. The quality and accessories are top notch and well thought out.

Compact camping friend

Trangia has always been a trusted brand name, but this little set is fantastic. I'm not a hardcore camper, but I like to travel as light as possible without being obsessive. This takes up very little space if you are packing up the car and the non-stick is an added bonus...no need to think twice if you fancy scrambled eggs for breakfast!

its simple, there is nothing to get broken, its easy to use (even when cold & tired) its surprisingly quick to heat up too. the non stick pans are a blessing, they make it easy to wash while in the wilds.we don't drink brew's so we got this one without the kettle. if you drink brew's then get the one with the kettle!is there anything else to say? its a trangia stove, the pans are non stick. if you're looking for a trangia with non stick pans, get this one. its perfect.

20 years old and still going

I had one of these 20 years ago for my first camping trip. It has been used for every camping trip since. I have never had to replace a part, been unable to get fuel (including in Europe)or had it refuse to light.I have cooked everything from stir-fries to fondues, stews to pancakes and it has never, ever let me down.I cannot reccommend highly enough. It was as expensive buy for me at the time but after 20 years it was definately money well spent.

Trangia 27 cooking stove

Ordered this product after travelling to Europe with my Brother-in-law who kept mentioning how good his old Trangia was. I took a single gas burner with me, but as we travelled on the Channel Tunnel, we were not allowed to take gas. This became inconvenient the other end as we had to try and find a gas retailer. He just took a small bottle of meths and away he went. A very compact and simple system that is very effective. Would highly recommend one of these. Be aware when ordereding as some packages come with kettles and some do not. For a second opinion look on youtube and most people only speak highly of them.

Quality kit

Had this now about six months and used it throughout the season. Took it on two solo 7 day treks wild camping all the way and it proved its worth, not the lightest but certainly up there with the best. Convenient, stable and reliable, fuel readily available from many outlets. If there's more than one of you then I would advise getting the bigger version but for solo its the bees knees. Highly recommended.

Primus outdoor toaster

Great great toaster! No need to hold the handle. Simply put it on the stove, adjust your stove flame to small, move your peace of bread two max three times to toast whole erea of your bread (I have small stove OmniLiteTi with small burner therefore move bread three times, any MSR, Primus, Providus with larger burners will cover more erea of the bread therefore you'll need to move bread two times on each side at most). Light and small to pack!To toast both sides of the bread to nice brown colour took me less then two minutes. Previuosly had toaster where bread stands, (don't want to mention producer but those that used know what I'm taking about) and my patience ended in first go. Took me about 20 minuts and insted of nice soft toaster got a craker. Waste of gaz, time and simply a joke.I mostly use it when travel on motorbike, hike and when climbing mountais. In the morning with the tea or in the evening with hot sup this small gadget makes me smile.Definitely would recomend this toaster because it does what it suppose to do!

Great little product!

We bought this not as a camping stove but as our only way of cooking in our kitchen in the house we were renovating! We used it every day for about eighteen months and it was fantastic! My only criticism is that it isn't the easiest to clean, but it did a great job for us. We have lent it to friends to take on camping holidays and they loved it too. The grill is great and the double hobs make cooking really versatile. Great little product.

Kettle for use in caravan

Perfect for the lone traveller

This kettle is compact and well made. I like the fact that it has a lid so its easy to fill and you can see the level so avoiding the risk of overfilling and spills. The spout pours nicely - no dripping. Another nice feature which the manufacturers dont mention is that when the handle is folded down for storage it holds the lid firmly into position so it doesnt rattle or fall off. The only reason not to buy this kettle would be if you needed to boil more than two mugs of water.

Great camping kettle to suit two people

While it should be obvious from the capacity being under a litre, when it arrived I was surprised at how small it actually was. However, the small size is an advantage, because it comes to the boil pretty quickly and if you fill it to capacity, it's just enough to make two cuppas, or provided enough hot water for doing the washing up. Although the handle has a rubber section, depending on your gas ring, this may not be enough to keep the handle cool enough - on one of our rings it's fine, but on another, for some reason, the handle gets very hot.The handle folds over for storage, and the lid has a small ring so you can lift it easily. The spout is also well designed in that water goes where it's supposed to and doesn't dribble all over the place like some kettles do. We're very happy with this kettle, it does just what it's supposed to!
